IPD ECU upgrade 850

I'm toying with the idea of buying an IPD ECU used from someone. I basically have two questions...

1. How do I know, by looking, that the ECU has been upgraded? Is there some outward sign to look for? I'm just being careful to not get ripped.

2. I am assuming that IPD's warranty does not transfer with the sale of an ECU. Does anyone have info about that?

thanks folks!

/Scott

What warranty, nothing will go wrong. IPD is great, if you do not like it, I am sure they will remove the programming for you. BUT, when you 1st get it, you do not notice much, wait about a week and you will be freaking. It is not 40 hp gains, it 49+. my 850 is at least 280 hp. It is really quite sick! And the top end!! you can get from 90 to 125-1130 like (snap) that!

Best 1000 buck I ever spent.

ps I'm in alabama, come down and see for yourself

IPD flashes a new program over the stock volvo program so there is no way by looking at it to make sure its been reprogrammed.
I don't know about the warranty.

Thx, Rich, that's what I thought. I guess the first thing I'd notice (aside from 40+ more hp) is that the boost gauge will just about max out instead of 3/4 like it does now. As an aside, it was about -10F this morning, and the car seemed too get a boost, with that dense, cold intake charge. I could have sworn the boost gauge went higher than normal for a few seconds.

I think I'll call IPD to see about their warranty... just in case.

thx again,

Scott

IPD ECU upgrade 850 1995

hey scott, i didn't really notice much difference on my turbo gauge, it's so...undescriptive =). installed a vdo boost gauge and i could finally tell it's almost up to 14psi. i love the upgrade, also put in exhaust with a square tip (for my box hehe), it's a little off center, but it works fine and i probably just need a stiffer bushing on one side to pull it back.

as for warranty, read up on moss-magnusson act on sema.org or on my other post for a short explanation on aftermarket stuff.

oops 850 1995

i guess u meant if the warranty gets transferred...doubt it...call ipd. bilstein's warranty are offered to original purchaser, not thereafter. btw, it looks the same, just reprogrammed the software, no hardware added; i would be very very careful about getting from a third party.

Why is that? I don't think myself naive, but you never know.

i know...but 850 1995

but, if it were something like shocks/bars, it'd be easy to tell first look if they're the real thing or not (usually). but u just can't tell ecu from the looks of it and it costs a bundle. easiest way to actually tell is to go get a boost gauge or get on a dyno; "butt-dyno" =) simply isn't all that accurate. u could also try getting a g-tech, run a few b4 using new ecu, run a few after using new ecu, all in the same day/condition, and compare the numbers.
