Yes. I have been told by my salesman that the price should run anywhere from the high $30,000.00 to the mid $40,000.00 price range, depending on your options.

I'd be interested in knowing how much it costs to build one. How much more does it cost to build an SUV over a car of comparable size in general. Granted, there are alot of variables, ie labor costs, materials etc. etc. But there are also lots of ways to spread out the costs, such as buying in bulk from vendors, negotiating long term contracts, sharing engineering costs between models, and sharing many parts between models. I'm thinking that it doesn't cost that much more. Comments?

I heard that they are going to try to offer a base model front drive, 5cyl low pressure turbo auto for under 40k.

$5K more than a Lexus RX300? Tough sell.
Athough also $5K more than a V70. Hopefully this will cause people who shop for a XC90 to shop a V70 instead.

Lexus RX300? XC90 will offer more more power delivery, will be bigger and will offer 100% better handling...

and 100% less reliable
and the dealers will give you 100% more garbage when you bring it in
and in a year or so you'll be 100% more likely to get rid of it
and spend another 100% for a Lexus
because its 100% made by Toyota
not 100% made by Ford.
38-44K...Geeze, who would want to pay that much for the equivalent of a few leather couches on the driveway!!!

Did you drive one?
I'd like to know how it compares.

No I have not. I am (I think) going to Sweden in lat AUgust for a 3 or 4-day training (we did the same when the S80 was launched). I am extremely curious. I have spoken to two people who work for Volvo, in Sweden, and they have told me that the handling characteristics and power of the XC90 are unbelievable.
Can't wait to experience them, first hand.

Sweet at over 40,000 bucks I'll be able to afford one in 15 years. They're really nice looking and I'm sure that they'll be very nice. I just hope they get all the bugs worked out and don't take Ford's "slap it together and market it" outlook.
