XC - dual exhaust on the sly ??? V70-XC70

The 1998 XC comes with a dummy muffler on the left rear underbody. I noticed that a V70 2.5 comes with a real muffler on the left side. I am thinking that if the muffler inlet diameter is the same ( the outlet and tip look the same ) then installing this muffler to the left pipe would create dual exhaust functionality ( it's still a "Y", I know )without the cost of the aftermarket setups. I just hate looking at that block off in the rear bumper. Informed thought please.
Cheers

XC - dual exhaust on the sly ??? V70-XC70

For what it's worth, my 2000 V70 R has the factory dual exhaust. The left side doesn't do much except look nice. You could just buy the tailpipe tip and a short piece of exhaust tubing and have someone tack weld it onto your muffler. (maybe make a kit to sell these to all teh XC and AWD owners?)

XC - dual exhaust ...........sold at.......... V70-XC70

IPD sells them for about $1000 for XCs up to '01. We have customers who've purchased them and although it sounds cool, it doesn't add anything to performance IMO as it's not true dual exhaust and I don't think the stock exhaust is restricting flow any more than adding the other muffler (splitting it).
In case you havent been there, it's www.ipdusa.com

XC - dual exhaust ...........sold at.......... a high price. V70-XC70

$1000. for exhaust. not even a full exhaust.

perhaps this is what the original poster was trying to avoid? ("without the cost of the aftermarket setups")

      Just my opinion.
