Trunk light 850 1994

Is the trunk light suppose to go out when the trunk is shut? If not, mine has been on for six months.

On the 1996 850 there is a switch on the trunk light which turns it permanently off or on when the trunk is open. You can check for its proper operation by peering into the trunk through the armrest in the rear seat (with both halves folded down).

librayacht: True on 97s and I suspect all 850s. But why? I've read that it's supposed to, in the 'on' position, activate only when the trunk is open, like almost every automobile built in the last 40 years. Maybe all our trunk-open/closed sensors are faulty. (?)

Sorry for the tone, but I have to vent on this topic.

librayacht: sorry, misread your post. You seem to not suffer from the problem by your wording. Ignore my previous rant :-)

Same problem here. Drained my battery -- needed a jump less than a week ago because of it. I forgot to turn it off. It seems the switch that activates the light (akin to the 'door' setting on interior dome light) when the trunk is opened is broken and thinks the trunk is always shut.

yes, it is. as a precaution you can switch teh trunk light off by scrolling the knob by the light (on s70's, not sure about 850)
