Possible C70 Purchase C70

Hello all you FWD guys...
I drive a '91 780 Turbo and am considering purchasing a '99 C70 HPT coupe, automatic. You can find the one in particular I'm considering by looking on eBay and searching eBayMotors for "Volvo Super Coupe". Seems like a real nice car for the money despite the slightly higher than average miles (61K). I've spoken with him and he answered all my questions. The car was in an accident but was (duh) repaired completely. The only thing that worries me is that there was apparently some suspension damage during the accident, although all affected components were replaced. I dunno.... I like RWD because it's so much easier to work on, but I'm getting tired of crossing my fingers when I go to start the damn thing in the morning. Any advice, positive or negative, as well as things to look for when shopping for other C70s would be appreciated. If I had my druthers, I'd be looking at a 2000-2001 Black HPT Coupe w/ the 5 spd. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks in advance, guys....

-Jon

    Possible C70 Purchase C70 1998

I have a 1998 C70 that I would sell. It has 34,000mi. 18" BBS factory wheels that look incredible. The car has never been wrecked and has never been in an accident. I have had no mechanical issues with it and the Volvo dealer has performed all of the service intervals. I have the records. The car is black with gray leather interior. Heated seats. Pro-Logic sound with 3disc in car changer. 6 disc changer option is there, ready for a changer to be installed in the trunk. The only thing that you need to be aware of is that the car is going to be ready for new tires pretty quick. I have two new 245-40 ZR18 PZero's that I would include with it so you would only have to buy two new tires. The car was the personal vehicle of the Volvo dealer here. I would be happy to take some pictures and email them to you. I don't really want to part with the car but am considering of building a house in the near term and could use some capital.

I don't know what part of the US you live in but I am selling a 1999 C70 Coupe here in Massachusetts.
Color: Black, blk leather interior, automatic, all options, ProLogic In-dash CD. New Michelin tires, 16" inch multi-spoke factory optional wheels.
It has 20,800 miles. It was a former Volvo executive car. I bought it with 11K miles in July 2000. It has never been damaged and it as rattle free as the day it was delivered. I only drive it on the weekends hence the low mileage.
I am a car perfectionist. The car is waxed twice a year, hand washed weekly, garaged and the oil is changed every 3K mi. with Mobile 1 oil. Non-smoker. All Volvo service and updates have been performed. This is my seventh Volvo. I need a 4 door for business and everyone in my family already has a late model Volvo so I'm selling it for $27,500. It's too good to trade.
Ther are no loans on the car, I have the title so it could be picked up and driven away.(cash only).

I wouldn't go with a C70, they were over priced when they came out. C70 was not volvo's best car. If you want a sports car coupe for a decent price, try an older Audi TT or a Boxster.

Some people are happy with their C70's but I've heard some stories and suggestions to avoid it (even from a dealership).

Yup! I'd look around too. Since the cars been hit
no sense taking a chance or you can be in for
some big headaches. If you really want the coupe
you may want to get into one quick soon.
I hear the coupes production ends this summer
for good. Then everyone will probabbly hold on to
theirs. If you can find stick go for it. It's fun.

According to yesterday's Wall Street Journal there are a lot of premium cars that were leased at the peak of the dot-com boom now coming off lease so there are some amazing incentives planned by the manufacturers. I'd be inclined to be picky about choosing one, look for a Volvo CPO example with a 100k warranty. Call around to several dealers tell them what you want and bargain hard. I just turned down a low mileage S70T5 I was offered CPO, full service records, 100k warranty for about 20k. My best guess is we haven't yet seen the price bottom in the lease return used car market, of course I could be wrong.

Just the fact that he didn't disclose in the auction that the car was in an accident (and from what you described considerable damage), I wouldn't even dare touching that car. The person is already flaki by not mentioning the accident, who knows what other stuff he didn't tell you. You're probably better off looking in the classifieds for what you are looking for. Remember, all those heavy duty mods and stuff don't do anything to the resale value of the car. There are a lot of decent low mileage C70s out there. Good luck in your search.
