I have a "chirping" noise coming from behind the glove box on the passenger side.I assume it is a failing fan motor. Is this an easy thing to replace/fix?, or does it warrant a trip to my local mechanic.Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Chas,

I hear this noise on my '96 during the winter sometimes, and also a moaning from the fan if I stop fast, but only in the winter. I'd love to find out how to fix it, probably costs a mint though to repair. I usually "cure" the problem by turning the fan off for about 3 seconds and back on. The noises come back however.

The VolvoSpeed maint forum has a thread on this right now with problems\fixes similar to you both, Bay i3 there also has a detailed fix for it.
