Installing Bilstein Shocks 850

I am planning to install Bilstein Shocks in my 1993 850. Can someone tell me how difficult this job is and all the tools I would need any other pointers. I have never done this so please keep this in my in your responses. Thanks.

Rears will take less then an hour for a first timer. I have the instructions at volvospeed. The fronts you will need a spring compressor. You can buy one for around 30 dollars at most part stores. I am working on ths instructions, Rich was supposed to help , but they are not done yet. At the least I would do the rear yourself. Save the hour labor a shop would change you for that.

      Be Careful! 850

These repairs are not rocket science, but just be aware that when you compress an automotive spring, you are storing a tremendous amount of energy. If something goes wrong, or you do something stupid, you can end up killing yourself, or someone nearby.

Make sure the tools you get are in reasonably good condition. If the spring compressors are of the variety where you are using multiple screw clamps, use all the clamps that come with the tool and do a reasonable job a tightening the clamps evenly.

Until you become a pro, take your time, look at what you are doing, and understand all the potential problems.

If you have an Autozone store in your area they LEND specialty tools and I beleive they do offer a McPherson strut spring compressor. Be nice and buy your oil there if you're borrowing tools :)

Are the springs supposed to be changed as well? How often should one change the springs? My car now feels like it is always riding on a bumpy road. So much rattling inside compared to a Honda
