Wagon liftgate won't stay up 850 1995

The liftgate of my 850 Turbo wagon will not stay up when it is parked on a level or with the rear pointing downhill. When the front of the vehicle is pointing downhill, it generally holds.

Also, I notice a groan when lifting the door.

Is there a fairly simple adjustment that will fix this problem? I really don't need any more bumps on the head!

Thanks in advance!

Looks like its time to replace the gas springs. There is no adjustment. I got mine from http://www.volvoworld.com/ The inside rear pillar covers must be carefully removed for access. You'll need to prop up the tailgate with something like a 2 x 4 - and best to carefully prop way up it to fit in the new parts. Should take 1-2 hours. Good luck.
