Help! Thule bracket causing wet children! V70-XC70 1998

We have a '98 V70 T5 without the factory racks, so we utilize Thule mounting brackets and load bars. The mounting brackets over both rear doors (where the mounting notch is located) cause the weatherstipping to push out slightly, allowing rain to seep in and drip on the back seat (on our children!) Has anyone else experienced this? We use the mounting kit 161. I have contacted Thule directly - they don't have any fixes, but it has been reported from others. It amazes me that a company from Sweden doesn't have the proper fit for a Swedish car manufacturer.

TIA for any answers to such an odd question.

Help! Thule bracket causing wet children! V70-XC70 1998

We have the same bars (from Volvo dealer) with a Thule
cargo container and have the same problem (on our 95 wagon).

I recall reading somewhere that you should not leave the load
bars on more then 24 hours since that could make the problem
worse. (I would have read this in the manual or with
instructions that came with the load bars, I just can't remember).
So, I try not to leave them on over-night.

Current workaround is to give the kids a towel :)
