CD changer vs. stock in dash? 850 1993

Hi,

I was about to get the factory in dash unit used since it's such an easy install and will look clean, but after seeing them go for $350-400 used, I'm leaning towards adding an Alpine CHM-S620 in the glovebox. (approx $250 installed)

Is there any sound quality difference between the two setups? Is the SC-815 a higher power head unit than the SC-810?

Thanks.

Warren.

Maybe you can still find the glove box changer that Volvo was selling cheap. it comes with a solid mounting kit, and the sound quality is great. I think in-dash unit is great, but this should not exclude a changer. I load mine once a week, and get 6 hours of play, enought for a weekly commute.

Hey, this is a general question, is the CD Changer that he is talking about fit into the stock head unit for the SC-810? Thanks

I have a 97 850 with a stock stereo labeled an sc-811. I had the alpine 620 installed and it sounds great. No additional parts are required for the install. I recommend this avenue if you don't mind the trunk mount. Mine is mounted under the top deck so it is still acessible with a full trunk. Again, sounds great and no compatibilty issues. Also the sc-811 has the one through six buttons which are ordinarily used for fm presets. This will act as the cd selctor which makes it seem "right" for lack of a better word. Any other changer selection will require a fm transceiver (i believe its a transceiver) to broadcast to your head unit. Although this system could use a little more amplification. Has anybody used an amp with this setup and if so what amp and how. (Sorry to have asked a question while answering one)

      Good luck
