actual imrpovements w/3 turns on wastegate 850 1996

After hearing pros/cons of adjusting the wastegate, I wanted to try it and see what actual improvements, is any, were possible. Here are the averages from 4 runs with and without the 3 turns on a G-Tech:

IPD ECU
TME catback
K&N
0-60 6.10
1/4 14.54
mph 101.33

IPD ECU
TME catback
K&N
3 turns
0-60 5.96
1/4 14.44
mph 101.47

0-60 was .14 quicker. Picked up .10 in the quarter and minimal mph gains. No check engine lights. Seemed to run slightly rough until she warmed up. It looks like it got me under the 6 second mark anyway. Obviosly the ECU controls the wastegate so the gain is most realized 0-60 until the ECU catches up with the change. No driveability problems either.

Thought you might like to see some real world results.

BTW, anyone have detailed instructions to check the pressure at the wastegate to see when it starts to bleed off boost?

mmmmmm
I was getting 5.88 secs measuring with the G-Tech several years ago with my 97 850 T-5 Wagon with only a BSR chip installed!!

Try this, with your foot on the brake rev up the engine to about 2000-3000 RPM and let go of the brake at the same time you floor it
The wheels will spin abit, maybe even in 2nd and 3rd gear depending on the chip perfomance. You should be able to get to 5.88 or better with what you have on your car.

let me know!! jtnash@hotmail.com
thanks

It is not so much "Obviosly the ECU controls the wastegate so the gain is most realized 0-60 until the ECU catches up with the change" as it is less turbo lag, which is why the minor shortening of the wastegate actuator rod can be beneficial, but not as as max boost increase, as some wrongly believe it to be. By shortening the rod, more exhaust is pushed through the exhaust impeller more quickly. But because maximum pressure is controlled by a spring in the wastegate, the max pressure stays the same.

On behalf of the brickboard, thanks for the testing and reporting!

Where is this wastegate? I think mine might be stuck as I can't seem to get much boost out of my 855 wagon It'll just barely go into the white... Any ideas? No check engine lights, although I did get one a while back for an O2 sensor - sense replaced. Thanks,
Nate

It's right on the turbo.
