I have a 96 850R and within the last couple days, I've started hearing a sound from the front right tire. It sounds like something's falling apart, but when I looked at everything around there, I couldn't find anything. I'm thinking it may be the CV boot, but both of them were replaced at 50K miles (it now has 93k miles). Could it be the CV boot again?

    I too have noise from my right front wheel. I occurs predominantly when turning left at low speed. It's a clunking sounds, sort of like the wheel is loose (believe me, its not). I was informed by the seller that this was diagnosed as excess horizontal play in the axel. It hasn't got any worse in the 4000 mi (114,000 mi total) since I bought the car so I haven't had it fixed yet. I'd be interested in your findings.

    what type of sound is it?
    a popping
    a clicking
    a grinding
    a ticking
    a rattling
    etc
    --
    94 854 turbo. (193 hp, 230.1 ft/lbs) numbers are higher, but till i go back to the dyno, i am unsure.

      Good question. It's a rattling sound...almost like something's falling apart. At first I thought the pads/rotors/brake hardware was loose, but it all seems tight and secure.

        Is the sound more pronounced when driving slowly over uneven pavement?
        If so, then my initial thought is to check your strut bearing and/or the rubber strut seat. Push your front right bumper up and down to exercise your front right suspension to see if the noise coming from the strut area.
