Washers under the seat attachment points STOPPED the creaking in the seat!

1999 XC

I posted a few weeks ago about my power front driver seat "creaking" as I accelerated/decelerated or went around a curve, etc.

Someone said to place nickles under the left front and right rear seat attachment points.

I chose to use washers as it seems more secure that way.

I used two washers each under those two attachment points, and PRESTO!, the creaking is GONE.

Thank you thank you...

Bill, did you remove the two(or all four) of the bolts, and then add the washer? Or...did ou just ft the washer under the attachment point?

I removed ONE bolt at a time...I started on the left front attachment point...I was able to move the seat rail up a bit (to make room under the seat to squeeze in the washers) by leaning on the seat...I could then sqeeze two washers under the attachment point, and then feed the bolt back thru the seat raail, then thru washers, and into the floor.

I the repeated the operation on the right-rear attachment point.

I just guessed at using TWO washers...perhaps one would have worked...or perhaps 3 would work as good as two. I figure it's best to use the least amount of washers necc to fix the creaking so as not to flex the seat rails TOO much.

Thanks....I will give it a try in the AM, and post my results.

I did have the TSB "gas strut" fix done at the dealer some time ago, but they(both fronts are power)still "click" under heavy loads....but not as mush as they before the TSB.

Thanks for your help..I would go down to the garage right no to try it, but its just too cold....it can wait till morning.

Hi,

What is the TSB Gas Strut fix you alluded to ? I have power seats in my R and get an audible click under cornering loads. Could this be related ? If there is a TSB presumably my Volvo dealer ought to be able to look it up ? Is it a DIY job ?

Thanks in advance.

omni,
There is a TSB for this problem....and your Volvo dealer service dept "should" know about it. I had it performed on my MY2000 S70/GLT under warranty about five months ago, and like I said they did both front power seats.

I have no idea where the strut goes, as I have not yet looked under there, but it does seem to get rid of 95% of the "clicking" under loads. Once in a while when I have to slam on the brakes, or if I hit the gas just right, it will still click. This is why I will try the washer idea...as soon as I get a chance.

I know I have the TSB number, and I think I have the Volvo/PN for the strut as well. If you need either one or both of them just e-mail me, and I will look them up for you.
