Paint + sap = big problems 850 1996

I bought my car used about a year and a half ago. The owners lived with lots of pine trees around and the car was usually garaged but still no escape from the sap. So when I got the car it had a couple sap drops that were really hard to remove, I got most of them but there are still a few on the car. Now when I try and scatch them off NOTHING happens at all, Its like the are part of the paint. Is there anything I can do to touch these sucka's up?? I bought some touch up paint from the dealer a while back and havent used it yet but probably wouldnt be a good idea just to go over it with that. Any suggestions would help me greatly. sap sux :(

I've found in the past that if you keep sap wet for long enough it will come off easily; it's water soluble after all, just slow to dissolve. I first found this when the car had been standing out in the rain overnight. No risk of scratching the paint this way. You could try keeping a wet sponge on it for a few hours. Good luck.

Jeremye,

Try using a clay bar to remove the sap.

Sin is right though. If the sap has been on long enough to etch the finish, you will have to respray.

Good luck!

I would start with a sap remover specially formulated for car finishes. After you remove the sap, if the damage is slight, a polish and waxing may be enough. However, depending on how long it has been there, there could be permanent damage, with little more you can do but repaint the car.
