Failing Speaker? V70-XC70 1998

The Right Front speaker has been acting up lately. It seems to have a mind of it's own and operates periodically. Is this another common wiring problem for this model? Any advice? Glad I usually am sitting on the left side!

Mark,

The environmentally friendly glue used to hold the magnet often loses its grip. If you also hear buzzing on higher volume, this is most likely the problem.

Pry up the grille. Push down on the four (4) expanding rivits on the corners of the speaker while pulling up to remove the speaker.

Use environmentally unfriendly glue to reattach the magnet. Rock on!

I LIKE it! Simple! Elegant! Cheap! Not at all what my Volvo dealer would do! But... V70-XC70 1998

Do you have an 850 as opposed to a V70? the reason I ask is that I believe they redesigned the door panels, and I recall the SVC70 speaker grill is an intrinsic part of the door panel, as opposed to the 850's which pops out. I think you have to take the door panel off to get at the V70 speaker. It's not a big deal, tho.

Bill,

I am assuming that "right front" means the one on the top of the dashboard. That's what the instructions are for.

If he's talking about the door speaker, then he would have to remove the door panel first.

BTW why no longer the groundhog?

Ahhhhh, THAT speaker! And Punxsutawney Phil.... V70-XC70 1998

It's winter and Punxsutawney Phil is hibernating.

There are bright young hunters from McKinsey & Co. stalking his burrow in Pennsylvania. They have not yet found him. In fact they are not yet even aware of the existance of groundhogs or of their usefulness for predicting the end of winter. He hopes that they do not find him, and if they do not find him he will awaken in a few months.

My LF speaker did that and was replaced under warranty. I seem to remember an epidemic of LF speaker failures a few years ago, best guess was that the LF door gets slammed most often. I suppose once the RF door gets slammed enough that speaker will fail, too.

I'm having the same problem with the driver's side door speaker. I'm not
sure if it's a problem with the speaker or just the wiring. Replacing the
speaker is one way to find out.
