Rattling over minor road irregularities

I have a nagging rattling sound coming from the front suspensions that only occurs over rough speed bumps or irregular road conditions.

Definitely not the spring mountings as those make a konk sound and I replaced them less than 3 months ago.

I checked with my dealer's parts guy and he showed me that the antiroll bar endlinks only have a nut and bolt combo, no bushings there. What gives???

Rattling over minor road irregularities V70-XC70 1998

    Hi Gavinl,

I have the same problem with my V70; you didn't mention what kind of car you have. It's my understanding, like you mentioned, that there is a great amount of "sway bar end link" problems, although I don't know what that means exactly. Also, like you mentioned, I crawled under the car yesterday and the only thing attached to the sway bar is a thin steel bar which goes up and bolts to the front strut assembly. The only things I could see was the bolt & nut going thru that steel bar & thru the sway bar. I do seem to recall maybe a very small piece of rubber in that joint, but certainly nothing like a bushing. We need to figure out what this is & fix it. From everything I've heard, it's a very simple fix. Let me know if you've gotten any new info & perhaps we'll post a new message for the answer. I'm at jimholden1@netzero.net

Rattling over minor road irregularities S70 1998

Hi Jim, I have a S70T5 and I'll be going under my brick to check the suspension and antiroll bar bushings again to find the end link bush. Probably I can get a few pics to my dealer and check with them as well.

Will update U if I get new findings.

What you describe sounds like it could be a link rod. The rod connects from the sway bar to the strut. If you lay on the ground reach in and put your hand on the link rod and have someone bounce the car you will know if the link rod is bad, you will feel it clunking, if it's a good link rod you won't feel anything.

Thanks Richard, so will changing a bad link rod solve the rattling if it's really it? Or should I change the nut and bolt connecting the rod to the anti-roll bar as well?
