Hello All,

I have a 2016 XC90 T8 Inscription Plug-In Hybrid. Recently one of the key fobs was lost. I checked with my local Volvo dealer and the cost to obtain a replacement key fob is over $600. Can anyone recommend a less expensive alternative?

Yes, call around to different dealers. I found that they can vary by $100 or so. But still outrageously expensive for the programming monopoly.

Will do! I got a quote from my local Volvo dealer two years ago, and the price has increased over 14%. Sounds like a good "investment" for the dealer, but not me. I'll will put together a list of Volvo dealers and call around.

I think the new fob needs to be programed to your vehicle. The Volvo price quote may include that amount. That price is steep but less than Mercedes charges (if that makes you feel better). Some Volvo Dealers accept Costco member's service 15% discount. Buying a Volvo part would be warrantied, and they may disable the lost fob for security.

It does take out some of the "sting" knowing Mercedes charges more. Thank you for alerting me to the Costco discount and for reminding me the lost key fob can be disabled, which something I will do. I doubt the lost key fob will return (my daughter lost it down in VA) and the XC90 T8 is now based in CT, but who wants to tempt fate? Thank you for your reply.

You could try an online vendor. Much cheaper, but I have no idea about quality and reliability.

Thanks. I will look on line and will also call other Volvo dealers to get price quotes. For some reason, I think some software has to be downloaded to accept a new key, which I believe only is available via a dealer. We'll see. Again, I appreciate your reply.
