Non Turbo fuel rating V70-XC70

Octane rating for 260 hp. V70 base?

Is 87 okay for best/adequate performance?

could not find anything on Search!

Use the proper rating for your car or higher.

Do you know what your fuel management system senses a knock?

It adds extra fuel - because knocking is ignition BEFORE the plugs spark - changing timing may not work quickly.

I do not know if it resets itself normally - I found out during a trip across Canada when I got regular gas at a set of French pumps - I got 3 GPM less on that tankful!

What year is your car? A base 6 cylinder? Believe those started in 2008 with newer model V70 and XC70. The earlier cars had a base 5 cylinder with less HP. Plus a turbo engine.

My bad, it is a 168 hp and enquires 91 RON which by usa ratings = 87.
So "jwalker" is correct Shell will love it if you use their 93 which has less ethanol.
Thanks to both of you!

2000 V70 Owner's Manual specifies AKI 91 Octane.

91 AKI = 93 RON.

The AKI (Anti Knock Index) is the number that appears on the fuel pump in the United States, while the RON is the most common rating system used worldwide.

Confirm N/A 260hp?

Our 2000 V70 Owner's Manual specifies 91 Octane for the B5244S engine; N/A, 168hp, 10.3:1 compression ratio.

Lower octane fuel burns hotter. Have researched that White Block valves (four valves per cylinder) are susceptible to burning/failure with prolonged use of lower octane.

Our V70 just passed through 304K miles using 91. Still runs strong.

Doesn’t it say in your owner’s manual? Or check the fuel filler door. If no luck, call a Volvo dealer.

My guess is 89, but it will run ok on 87.
