wheel bearings V70-XC70

Hi all,
In case anyone is in need of new front wheel bearings for their v70, I just did this on the driver side. Did not wnat to spend $$$ for the vovlvo or oem with the age of the car and mileage (225k). i ordered an ebay item figuring it would be el cheapo chinese bearing but ok for a year or two. anyhow $32 and free shipping. I was a repackaged Moog brand bearing made in Korea.

    Hi Mike

Chinese hubs are rubbish, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THEM.
I replaced all four hubs in my 850 at about 200K miles with that stuff .
The machining looked great, the bearings were trash.
They started growling in less than 5K miles.

Then I replaced only the front hubs with OEM grade FAG hubs.
My lousy mileage went from 13-15 around town to 22-24MPG.

Do hubs in sets both fronts, both rears.
Use FAG, SKF ie: OEM grade hubs only!
Do purchase new e-Bolts for the new hubs.
    You'll need an impact e-socket.

    Bill

I hear ya' and if this was still a long haul daily use vehicle, i would probably have gone with the oem bearing; however, i can change a wheel bearing on this in under 1 hour and my labor to me is free. I will run the korean bearing unitl it starts roaring and change it out again. Just offering up that the bearing i found was made in korea andd was moog branded; hopefully a little better than the typical chinese bearings.

BTW, on my regular use vehicles, i always insist on timken if available; if not oe.

        Hi Mike,

I wonder how many companies actually manufacture OEM hubs vs the listings of companies that peddle them.
Then there's counterfeit hubs, crap sold in OEM marked boxes.

You get what you pay for..... if you're not cheated.

Report back how you do with that hub. Maybe you'll get lucky.
See if your gas mileage goes up.

        Good luck, Bill
