Key Fob Not Working After 12 Volt Battery Disconnect V70-XC70


So I finally made the leap to the V70 after 30 years with my 240s. I've not sold them of course. Just thought I would see what all the fuss was about when it came to power seats. Anyhow, I had to replace the rear view mirror so I disconnected the battery and did the job. All worked great with one exception. My key fobs no longer work. Keys both start the car thank goodness but I can't lock or unlock the car with the FOBs. Any suggestions or ideas are very welcome. I will note that I never have had this problem with my 240s.... As I'm sitting here, I'm thinking that the auto dimming mirror may have something to do with this issue, perhaps.

Hey Rob. First of all, welcome to the 21st century. Second of all, your hypothesis is spot on. The mirror is programmed to work with the key FOB. What you have to do is take out the guts of the old mirror to use on the new mirror so your FOB will lock and unlock the doors. Problem solved! (I know because I just had the exact some problem and fixed it the way I described. Very easy.) Best, Rob

You guessed it! The upper electrical module (UEM) is housed in the mirror assembly-- if this is taken offline, you won't have sunroof, alarm or remote locking functions. I hope you still have the old mirror. Lots more wisdom on the P2 cars over at Matthew's Volvo Site. Having a Volvo-specific code reader is practically essential for these cars-- I have VIDA-DICE, but there are other options too.
