Nothing controlled by steering co.um stalks is working V70-XC70 2007

Greetings,
My 2007 XC70 just went slightly haywire: Nothing controlled by the stalks on the steering column is working EXCEPT the windshield wiper (but the intermittent/mist function not working). This is a sudden thing--it may have happened overnight. high-beam headlights, information readout (fuel economy, etc.), turn signals on left stalk, and windshield washer (front and rear) and rear wiper control do not work at all. However, if I put the car in reverse while the windshield wipers are on, the rear wiper will turn on and won't turn off.

Any thoughts?

Thank you, as always.

It's going to my trusted independent mechanic. I haven't any idea how to track all this down. :)

How odd! Perhaps a common ground connection between them has lost its touch.
The other thing that comes to mind if something, somewhere, was recently disturbed and wires crossed, weird things like this might happen. Check any recent work and look through the fuse panels for common circuits.

    Best of luck,
    Will

    Hi,

So many things at the same time? Wow!

I’m thinking 🤔, No one controller should be connected to that many devices.

I’m starting to wonder, if something like a rodent, got under the dash where lots of major controllers are and got the munchies on some wiring harness bundles.
Night times are for critters like prime TV shacking time is for us, except they don’t snooze out. 😴🍕

Do you leave the car set outdoors. Over grassy areas are the worst especially with a few inches grass around or underneath.
Perfect for sneaking about and it’s why cats hangout around cars. They follow urine.

Wire insulation is colorful and apparently somewhat tasty but rodents are inquisitive creatures that like quiet seclusion a lot!
Wiring Harnesses are nice runways and like a root or plant branching.

I wouldn’t be surprised that you have a nice “pocket bed” somewhere up in the ventilations cross over network.
Does this car have a dash mounted transmission shifter? I’m a 240 man.
What you described was almost a cornucopia of pleasure near a dash cluster intersection.
The pests “bed” might be on the other side, as above around gloveboxes. More room for escape routes and because they get food items tossed above the dash there or into them.
    (:(
Sorry to say, but it’s looking to be a time to more inquisitive yourself like a mouse.

A fly on the wall cannot not help you here. (:-) Buzz.

    Phil
