Looking to Acquire a 2004 XC90 XC90

I’m going to look at one next weekend. It has 200,000 miles on it with possible other issues that I will discuss further when I see it. I’m wondering what experiences people have had with theirs. I’m getting it for free so the price is right but I just don’t want to get in over my head.

See if you can have a dealer check it out.

Ask the seller if he will let you talk about the car with his dealer or mechanic.

    Look in the maintenance book.

When we bought our used '08 XC70 , I found the name of the past owners garage and called him up - he told me that all Volvo services had been performed on the car.

However when my dealer checked the car, they found a bad vacuume pump and the rotors were so rusty that the pads did not touh the rotors properly (a nice way to cite rusty rotors)

The dealer that I was purchasing it from installed new front rotors, turned the rear ones and installed all new pads - they also replaced the vacuum pump. The car also had new tires.

We have owned the car for 4 years, and not had any repairs at all.

    hello marie,

what happened to your dead battery post?
    did you resolve the problem?
    if so, what was wrong?

It was the battery, but now I have a warning about my airbag, plus two shot sensors and the front two windows don’t work. Way to much for me to invest in a 2001 car.

Just make sure the 5 cyl engine isn't leaking oil. The AC may or may not work, a simple recharge if not.

My philosophy: If it is free and moves on its own power, drive it home!
