2nd Generation C70 Bluetooth Question C70 2009

After a drunk driver wasted my lovingly-rebuilt 1998 C70 hardtop, it was a few years before I bought a replacement. I ended up purchasing a 2009 C70 in the early days of the pandemic. Love the car, but its systems are complicated and there isn't a lot of repair/maintenance that I can do myself on this car.

My question relates to the bluetooth integration in the car. For a 2009 model year this car impressed me by being able to easily sync with my iPhone. I can make and receive calls easily while driving. This is great. My intermediate driver was a 2001 XC70 that required a hardware add-on to connect the phone to the stereo.

The issue is that while the car syncs to my phone, it's *only* for the phone. Later models have full integration, allowing the car to use the music player as an add-on to the stereo system. My 2009 model year can't do this, but I know that later models can.

Does anyone know if this is a matter of a car software upgrade, or a different model music system? Is this something that can be upgraded on this model year?

Presently I use the stereo's "AUX" plug, but with newer phone lacking a headphone jack, I have to use an adapter that prevents me from charging the phone. Overall, this is suboptimal.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

    2nd Generation C70 Bluetooth Question C70 2009

Very sorry to hear about the 1998.

The 2009 is a nice car! Unfortunately, a few years too early for total Bluetooth integration. 2011 or 2012 might do it, but I wouldn't think it could be made to work in your car.

The iPhone 'ready' cars are privacy "enders". What I mean, is that they take all of the data on your phone and download it to the car, including pictures and call lists, and make that available to the car maker!!

When you sell a newer car, if you forget to delete your phone and other private data, it no longer belongs to you!

Klaus, Thanks. I'm bummed about the wreck of my '98. Sold it to some kid for like $300. Easily $1k in IPD parts, but the body was wrecked. I've gotten the short end of the stick for several years, but I try not to let it get to me.

Appreciate your warning about privacy. I do care about that. I bought a "newer" iPhone 8 which lets me charge it using a induction charger. This solved one of my issues.
