Scanner for V70, parking brake error V70-XC70 2008

I recently purchased an iCarsoft Vol 3.0 which was supposed to be specific to Volvo and cover our V70. It would not.

Pardon me if I've asked this before, but what is the proper scanner? The knock-off Vida Dice on ebay? Not wanting to spend a fortune.

The current problem with our V70 is the E-parking brake. It doesn't work, the parking brake indicator is flashing and we have the "parking brake service" message.

I'll tear into it but would this happen if the motors have failed or reached their travel limit? I hope to have time this weekend to rotate tires and check pad wear. I replaced the pads two years ago and to retract the P-brake motors used a 9V battery. They've worked fine up until just recently.

About rotating tires, odd that the owner's manual recommends not doing it so "suspension problems can be diagnosed by tire wear." The tires are not showing alignment related problems, just the fronts are wearing quicker than the rear as expected and I'm going to rotate them to the rear.

Thanks,

Erwin

The parking brake failure could have been water intrusion into the cab from a leaking sunroof drain or seal. I went to an independent and they pulled many codes from the brake module, including "major accident" which the car has never been involved in. They also dried out some of the electrics but that's as far as they could go without charging another $600 for a module, $500 to program or register it on the CAN bus all with no guarantee it won't fix it. So we're living without parking brakes. Have I said I'll never own another car with a sunroof? I've kept the drains clear but the seal around the glass leaked before I replaced it.

The seal around the sun roof is meant to slow down the amount of water entering the roof. That's why there are drains. In newer Volvos, the plastic drain tubes are the problem. The plastic gets brittle, they crack, and the joins fall apart. Why there isn't a single piece of tubing from SR to fender well is beyond me, or at least a clamp where two pipes come together.

Your 2008 isn't the only V/XC70 with water in the cabin. But ALL of them didn't get water in them until past the 50K warrantee period.

If you sell a car, turn in the plates immediately.

At the fire station where I worked, we let some of the neighbors park overnight. One time I noticed that an older station wagon did not move for several days. Upon investigation, I found that it was parked a bit into the bushes, had no rear plate (at the time Mass, did not require a front plate), and was full of junk like old tires, batteries and trash.

The police found that it was still registered to an old lady in Boston - she had given the car to a nice young feller - she had to get it towed away and disposed of. I thought she was sick over the matter.

The iCarSoft VOL V3.0 is supposed to work only for Volvo and Saab. It should easily display the brake problem and let you fix it.

    Rotate your tires!
Volvo selling out to the tire companies?? By the time the fronts wear out, that model of tire will no longer be for sale and won't match the rears!

About the iCarsoft Vol 3.0, after the instructions in the pamphlet failed to get me connected, I tried everything I could think of. "Key" (pushbutton) position I, II, connect scanner first, connect scanner afterwards, even engine on.

It would not connect unless I went through the manual mode, enter VIN, etc. Then it recognized Volvo and the top menu displayed. Pressing any function resulted in having to manually enter the VIN again or a Cannot Find or Cannot connect.

Yes, I rotate tires! Crazy to recommend not doing so when the fronts and rears are the same size.

      Thanks,

      Erwin
p.s. Finally sold the C70! Then a month later it was traced back to me after being impounded for running from police. The buyer never registered it. A fitting end to that car. The repair shop sent a registered letter so I called and we both had a laugh. I told them to do whatever they wanted with it.

Something wrong with the ISoft. The first thing it should do is grab the VIN. Because you input the VIN, it means it did not connect to the car. Send it back, or call ISoft.

I wonder if the car was stolen from the buyer and now he is out of luck. The mechanic is happy.
