Locked refueling panel door will not open. V70-XC70 2001

I went to refuel my V70, and the fuel panel door was locked closed.

This had not happened before over 19 years owning the car. Does any one have experience with this condition and the corrective action? Thank you.

You will have to remove some of the rear quarter panel in the right rear. You need to get a hand in there to pull on the wire to pop the fuel cover open. Try not to break any clips.

When you get home, you will need to determine if the solenoid is bad or the switch by the driver's seat failed.

Its possible the spring that "pops" the door open is broken or missing. Have someone press the button while you gently pry the door with something that wont damage the door.

On my 2003 V70 the tailgate wiring started shorting out where it enters the LH tailgate hinge. That caused a blown fuse in the REM. That same fuse also powered the fuel door latch so I had to put a new fuse in every time I wanted to fill the tank.
