Is there a better bulb? V70-XC70

Both my 06 xc70 and 13 s60 need low beam bulbs. Is there really a ‘better’ bulb? I would love a brighter bulb for both .

Brighter bulb usually implies hotter temperature, hotter will destroy the plastic bulb holder over time. There are those who converted to LED, but then that required a modification to the bulb out relay due to the low voltage (some of the Chinese LED's have quality control issues).

If your headlight coverings are plastic, I suggest cleaning and polishing the outside.

Find a flat place to align the headlights after new bulbs. Position the car 1 foot away from a wall. Tape a piece of paper against the wall with the 'beam cutoff' across the middle of the paper. Mark the cutoff beam with a sharpie (close counts). Back the car up 20-25 feet. Adjust the headlights up/down to get the cutoff in the same place as it was in at 1 foot distance.

I use Hella H7’s in my 03 V70 with (chipped) glass lenses. Nothing special about them but they seem to be adequate.

Are your lenses still nice and clear?

I found something very interesting (to me, anyway) when I first put a used '02 S40 on the road. The headlight adjusters were broken on one lamp and I purchased a replacement at a pullapart yard. At the same time I harvested a bunch of bulbs. All the bulbs were the same. This is the first Volvo we've owned that had anything other than sealed beams so was surprised to learn the difference between high and low beam was solely due to reflector shape. - Dave
