hood release cable broken V70-XC70 2007

Our 2007 XC70 hood release cable broke, and so did the handle. Have been opening the hood using a vice grip to pull the release, but this temporary solution is not a long-term option. Is this a DIY? Is there a good set of instructions or a video for how to address this? Is there a way to set it up so I can release the hood without replacing the interior cable? As always, thank you.

I used bicycle cable & sheaths to connect auxiliary cables to my latches on my 2004 V70. I routed the cables to a spot behind the grille that I can reach & release. This required removal of the bumper cover, grille, headlights & top sheet metal plate above radiator. Not complicated. I made loops at the cable ends to make it easier to pull.
