Accident: broken front suspension C70 2008

Bit by bit my daughter is chipping away at the car. Saturday it was raining and while making a left turn at a light she lost traction and slid heavily into and over a curb. Both right side wheels broken, front wheel pushed back against the fender. Probably broken control arm or worse. Fender dented, leading edge of rocker plastic crunched. I was able to drive it off the curb and to a parking lot before having it towed. No airbag deployment.

It's at the body shop now and I'm waiting for an estimate. No collision insurance on the car (my fault) so I'll have to eat this one. If (HA!) repairs reach 50% of BB value I might salvage it and walk away. Just the wrong car for her. An old Grand Cherokee 4.0L RWD I6 might be tough enough. Or a 940.

Both my kids started out in 240s. Safe and less power than a C70. Gotta figure they will have an accident or two.

Hopefully, not too much damage to the suspension. But body work is painful on the wallet.

You never mention what kind of car your daughter wants. I don't think she would like to drive around in a Hummer. And you wouldn't support a muscle car with her heavy right foot.

Hello Klause
The body shop replaced the control arm, fender, axle, wheels which I sourced and did an alignment. Thanks for the link, we ended up with a very clean ‘04 Grand Cherokee.

I discovered another problem with the C70 as I was preparing it to sell, which I’ll post separately.

Erwin
