V70 TIMING BELT LOGEVITY? JUMPED TEETH V70-XC70

What is the lifespan of the timing belt - recent scan at a 'dealer' said 'timing belt jumped teeth' and 02 sensor missing signal. What is the fix for this?
On my 240 I change timing belt every 90K

Thanks

Unless the tensioner 'died', it is almost impossible for a belt to "jump". Think of the slack required.

Is this on your 2002? With 180K miles? The belt should be changed if it is 10 years old, regardless of the miles. Your engine requires a new tensioner at the same time.

You also have a VVT, which changes the timing depending on engine load. The VVT is very dependent on clean engine oil and does not like traditional oil - synthetic is required. The VVT solenoid can be cleaned, if that is the reason for the error code.

Which O2 sensor are you referring? The front or rear? In either case, if the 'signal' is missing, replacement is needed.

Please post the error codes, I assume that the check engine light is on. Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free, some will also allow you to erase the codes.

Thanks Klaus - you are a life saviour

It has 300,000K and the dealer reads - ECM2A20, 643. found rear sensor missing signal
Found timing belt jumped teeth, CVVT mechanical fault

But car runs great other then the subtle transmission flares (+300 RPM)

I am in Canada by Niagara Falls - and you are located where?

Thanks for the prompt response. Plan on doing the entire timing package and is on 5-30 Castol Edge

Mike

If no one changed the timing belt since 180,000K, then change it along with the tensioner and roller.

BUT, if the check engine light is 'new', it may be a mechanical failure of the CVVT. IIRC, the 2002 has only 1 VVT, pull the T-belt cover off to inspect. If at any time the oil level got too low, the bearings could be toast.

Replacing the VVT is not fun, cam hold down tools are required.

Cahnge belt 80.000 or 8 years. Check water pump. Change if uncertain but change at every second belt as routine.
