XC70 hard start - improves when key held in #2 for 5 seconds V70-XC70 2005

Fuel Check Valve? Bad injector? My 05 XC70 has had this issue for a while now.
Car seems to be wanting gas. Doesn’t start up right away - instantly that is.

Symptom seams to disappear when I hold the key in position 2 first for about 5 or so seconds.
Have read some posts on different causes. And advice on where to start? Check value (btw intermittent inaccurate fuel level reading) not sure if Check and Sender are related issues?

Or do I start on the injectors?

Any advice based on the symptom and the temp work around with the key in 2 position?

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

JK

Is this only cold engine starts?

Before you tear apart the car, check the pressure at the fuel rail. After sitting for at least 4 hours, the pressure should be close to zero. If the pressure is less than 10 lbs a few minutes after engine shutdown, then the check valve is bad. But, the check valve is now part of the fuel pump, and you don't want to go there. Remember, no check valve will hold pressure. It is just there to hold fuel in the line.

Your car also has a PEM, probably external and exposed to the elements by the fuel filter. If so, you need a VIDA scan to diagnose it's codes.

If the PEM has been moved to the inside, there is a dealer service writeup to do that to cars with failing PEMs, then that should be just fine unless it got wet.

Issue happens with both cold and warm/hot start. Will check the pressure in both instances to get a read. Are there non-VIDA scan tools that can read the codes in the PEM?

If cold or warm start is the same, It could be the PEM or the fuel pump.

Thank you! Will check the PEM first and the ground. Then on to the pump.

Update on hard start. Opted to bring to dealer to dig deeper on codes.
Scans found that the fuel pump was showing fluctuations in pressure readings.
Thoroughly grilled the dealer regarding it and the PEM. They found no corrosion or issues with PEM. So I opted to bite the bullet. Pump was swapped and the car's performance has noticeably improved. Thank you for all the advice. Really appreciate this forum and all those who contribute.
