Need a new car V70-XC70

My beloved '98 V70 AWD died. Need a new AWD car (VT winters) and have been looking at more recent (2012-2016) XC70. It occurs to me that the S80 is a similar car, but less popular (therefore less expensive), and we don't really need a wagon, though we slightly prefer it. Is there any reason NOT to buy an S80 (w/similar trim) rather than an XC70? Also, leaning toward a T6. Any reason NOT to buy that over a 3.2 (non-turbo)?

    Need a new car V70-XC70

When we bought our new '12 CX70, we tried a turbo XC70 and XC60. Since we have a good relationship with our dealer, we had each for a weekend.

Both my wife and I did not like the way the turbo models upshifted when we let off the gas on the highway - my wife almost got in trouble on an exit we take all the time. She lets off the gas later that I do and she uses more braking to slow for exits.

We also noted a lack of engine braking (sometimes caused by an upshift) when we wanted to slow.

Both turbos were actually difficult to drive around parking lots as they supply A LOT of get up and go by 1500 RPM.

If you like to drive by go, brake, go, brake, go brake, etc you would like the turbos we drove

We were in our late 60s and thought this issue would cause more aggravation as we got older because we have kept our Volvos for 12 to 15 years.

Our NA 3.2 XC70 has quite a bit of pep when you step on it and has the engine braking that we value. I expected to be disappointed as our other car was a '96 855R. (I still miss that wonderful car that still gave me joy when it was 17 years old.)

I would drive both versions and see what the real world differences are. Do you need the extra power of the turbo?

The V70xc has more ground clearance than the S80, so if you drive around in 12" snow a lot...

The sedans have much less space to heat/cool than the wagons, so the climate control works faster. And much quieter.

Don't necessarily need the turbo, but I like the extra power. I guess my question in that regard is whether one engine is more reliable/trouble free than the other (Turbo vs. non-turbo).

Haven’t driven the NA 6 cylinder. So can’t comment on those. Have driven a friend’s 2011 XC T6. Sweet engine with plenty of power. Fastest Volvo I’ve ever driven...:)

In my opinion, the 3.2 NA will be cheaper in the long run. Not too many 6 cylinder engines with over 200K miles yet.

The 3L turbo will handle the AWD better, as the AWD can rob close to 20bhp.
