Hello All,
I am not an "expert" on wax products for wood inlays, but I wanted to share my experience. I went down to my local ACE Hardware store and took a look at the various wood waxes and polishes available. One product I have never heard of our used before was called 'Howard Feed-N-Wax". The bottle described the product as a "Wood Polish & Conditioner". Supposedly it it contains "Beeswax & Orange Oil". It also stated "A penetrating feeder and polish for all furniture finishes and natural woods". Intrigued by what I read I purchased a 16 oz. bottle for $10.99. The product looks like an orange colored jelly. I also took Chris' suggestion and ordered a can 1lb. can of Mimwax Paste Finishing wax.
Last Sunday, I choose to try the Howard Feed-N-Wax first because it was so cold outside, I was afraid the Mimwax would not adhere properly to the wood. I have to say I was impressed with the results of the Howard Wax. It went on easily and immediately enhanced the appearance of the wood. The directions say to leave it on for 20 minutes and then come back with another dry clean rag and buff it off. The Howard Wax seems to have been completely absorbed by the wood. The cracks in the wood inlays caused by drying do not seem as pronounced as before. The wood looks "rejuvenated". I plan to once a week apply anther coat of the Howard Wax. I'll do for a few weeks and then go on a quarterly basis in terms of applying it. I am very please with the results so far. When it warms up a little bit, I'll try the Minwax Paste Wax too. I wish I had discovered the Howard Wax sooner, but at least I will be in a position to properly preserve and care for the wood interior. This is the nicest Volvo I have ever owned. I am thankful I can take better care of it now.
By the way, let me quickly add, I am not a paid spokesman for Howard Wax. I didn't even knew it existed until a week ago. I am also thankful for the replies I received in connection to my inquiry from the Brickboard community. I hope my experience is helpful to others.
I hope all stay safe and well notwithstanding the coronavirus.
Hugh
