Will this tire work S60

I have a 2016 V60 T5 AWD and I would like a higher sidewall than what came with the car.  I would guess that if it works on a V60 Cross Country  the 235/50-18 will work on my 18 inc rims.

What say ye?

The middle number is the aspect ratio. If you want to increase the ratio from 40 to 50, then the width of the tread needs to be decreased. To keep the same wheel size, you would need to mount 195/50-18. Obviously, if you step down in wheel size, you can gain wider tread along with a higher ratio.

Thanks for that info.

My wife's bulging disc isn't loving the low profile on our rough roads. A bit of a higher side wall on a good tire would give more cushion to the ride.

Apparently the 2016 standard tire was a 17 inch and 18 inch was an option. SO whoever ordered my car new also ordered the optional 18 inch.

Aside from the Cross Country having a higher road to body height (about 2 inches) the cross country is the twin of the other V60 cars. I am not sure why the standard tire on the cross country is 235/50/18 but the optional 18 inch on a non cross country is 235/40/18.

I just bought brand new tires and to go out and buy new rims and tires would make my wallet cry. If I ever come across a good deal on wheels in a bones yard, maybe I'll buy them.

You said it yourself.
The XC60 is a couple of inches higher than the V60, allowing for a larger diameter tire. A 235/50/18 will probably rub on the wheel well in a V/S60.

Yes the XC60 is bigger, I just had a 2020 as a loaner. That thing turned easier than my V60.

The V60 Cross Country touts 2.5 inches more ground clearance and is that because of the higher aspect? IF it is then the 50 "should" work on my non-cross country.

I did a search of used rims and even used rims would cost $800 - $1,000. We drove some V60 cross country cars and had I known about the potential low profile tire on a V60 --- I would have opted for the Cross Country.

Where the Cross Country model is bold and brash, the classic Volvo V60 is mature and mellow. Its low-slung design makes it feel firm and luxurious, without being overly stiff or cold. Here's how the V60 compares to the V60 Cross Country:

I'm not trying to be a nuisance but I am trying to find why or what the difference is between the tires for a V60 AWD and the V60 Cross Country AWD. :)

Comparing the manuals for the V60 and the V60CC, I am totally confused. All of the tires for the V60 are "extra load" while the V60CC has "extra load" only on the 19' tire.

The V60 manual allows 235/40/18 OR 235/45/18 even though the 45 decreases the speedometer by 2.5 mph and increases the sidewall height by 1/2 inch.

The 215/50/17 leaves the speedometer unchanged, but the sidewall height is only increased by 1/2 inch.

The reason the V60CC tires are 'larger' is because the suspension is different, along with the wheel height. I would also surmise the turning radius is larger for the CC due to the larger tires.

"Comparing the manuals for the V60 and the V60CC, I am totally confused."

Ha! If you're confused I have no chance to understand. So I think I'll just stay happy with what I have because it seems that getting a higher sidewall is an expensive endeavor. I'll just have to accept the possibility of more curb rash marks on the rims. So far they are easy to take out with a fine toothed file but they will need some paint where filed.

I think the manufacturers should get over this new "look" and allow for more beefy tires. My friend with the BMW has bent a few rims on his low profile tires. We have several big interstate road construction projects that have created a war zone of pot holes. Hit those babies wrong and that rim takes a hit.

I'm not in NYC but this holds true for my area ................

"Avoid Low-Profile Tires
Low-profile tires tend to be preferred by people who drive in a lot of ‘urban’ environments. They are thinner than normal tires with less space to be filled with air, and they may also be made of a thinner material. In an ideal world, ‘urban’ streets are smooth, well-maintained concrete which is what low-profile tires are built to roll over quite smoothly. However, if you live in New York, even if your neighborhood has nicely paved roads, you will eventually wind up going somewhere (most places) with the usual pothole-filled mess. Low profile tires provide less ‘bounce’ space as a buffer between the rubber and the wheel meaning that pothole impacts are more likely to push through and dent the rims."

We have a lot of this and some are 2 inch or more drops. Oddly the covers are always right where the wheels travel, never in the middle of the lane.

Low profile and pot holes S60

It's not just the Northeast. It is America. The potholes are not just from freeze/thaw cycles. They are formed by "minimum bid" philosophies. You get what you pay for!

Sewers and water mains are under city/town streets, so a leak causes the road to buckle or cave in. The manhole covers never match the street surface.

Our suburban street was laid down over clay, no draining for rainy days, and included two layers of asphalt. No money was wasted! The streets lasted for 5 years, the builder long gone, the water mains leaked, and the patching began... We should have insisted on gravel roads, all that is needed is annual grading.

I laugh when I see cars with 22" wheels supporting 6,000 lbs slowly drive down the streets.
