Retiring 2004 v70.... What to do with it? V70-XC70

Retiring my 2004 NA v70. Took a hit before Christmas on the passenger rear door and quarter panel and it's not insured for collision. Well maintained but 440,000 miles, drives but not worth fixing. Interior is pretty decent and everything works. Am I crazy asking what to with it??

You're not crazy, just a bit sentimental. No one wants to see their car 'crushed', especially if there are good usable parts. Listing it with pictures on Facebook or Craigslist might elicit some local interest.

If you get some responses for trim parts, ask to have the 'old' parts put on your car. Or, call a local pick and pull yard and see if they want it.

I just drove it round trip detroit to toronto and it was fine (before the accident) but I've been feeling like it's time to look at other options. The roads in Michigan destroyed the suspension and I couldn't see putting that kind of work into a 16 year old 2004 car with almost a half-million miles. Still, lots of good parts....

I picked up a p3 s60, short term, and I love the way it drives.

BTW klaus your posts are always helpful and much appreciated...

Sorry to hear about your loss. At 440k it sounds like the car served you well. Are you going to buy another car? If so you may want to hang onto the wrecked one until you get the “new” one and see if you need any of the parts.

I have another P2, an S80, and I can pull off what I need. That looks like the direction I'm heading. I wondered if I should list it somewhere....like the Michigan volvo fb group....and see if people want parts. Is there a need for parts? If I sell it for salvage they'll crush it for scrap. I like to buy used OE parts whenever I can. There are headlights, taillights, seats, homelink visors, etc.

Interior the tan/ grey color?

Can you save me the seatbelt scuff preventer in the driver's B pillar ? It has a break in it so it can be taken off from the belt.
How it goes into the pillar trim is something I do not know.

Also, the A pillar trim (against the windshield) from the passenger's side. My cloth is puckered

Also, the right rear upper light section (with the brake light in it). Mine is not being cooperative as I try to reinstall the brake light holder.

I'll PM you my email address. G&K
