2016 V60 - was the 30,000 maint completed S60

Today I took my car in to the dealer for a State inspection. It passed but oddly somehow my brake pads are thicker than they were on the CPO Repair Audit form that I got when I bought the car. Magic I guess?

So it passed but the service guy came out and said I am due for an oil change because it has been a year since the oil change. Hm? I've only owned the car 6 months, then I remember that the dealer had given the car as a daily driver to the sales guy. He drove it for six months. Sitting out in the waiting area another women overheard the discussion and she said, "if it was a CPO car, should the oil have been changed when you bought it?". We chatted about it for a while.

Then the service manager comes out and says I am due for the 30,000 mile maintenance work. Hm? I told him that I thought the 30,000 mile was done under the CPO. I said no to the offer.

Went to pay for the inspections and the service manager says that he heard me talking and did the oil change for me...no charge.

I get home and pull out my CPO Repair Audit form and sure enough, there in clear letters it says that the 30,000 maintenance was completed.

So now I'm sitting here wondering if it was completed? They put all that stuff into the computer and if the computer is saying I need it, so I sit here thinking what's up?

This is the same place that the link below refers to and if you care to read, start at post #14.

So I am again wondering about this dealer? They did me wrong once before so they have a track record now and I am just wondering if the 30,000 mile maintenance was done as it was supposed to be done on the CPO car?

One thing that you could do is to look at the air filter - if it looks dirty, you might confront the dealer with that evidence.

Also, my '08 XC70 had spark plugs marked Ford - I was told that they were the original plugs for the car as replacement ones are marked Volvo. This car had 74K on it and the plugs should have been changed - since the car was serviced by an indie, perhaps their condition caused the tech to tell the PO they were OK.

I talked to the shop that stamped the maintenance book and they assured me that all service had been done in a timely manner.

Your air filter might be marked Ford or something other than Volvo that would indicate that it was original.

BTW - does the maintenance book look like it was stamped when each service was completed, or like someone just filled in the blanks?

In my Warranty and Maintenance Records booklet, there is nothing. There is not a stamp, there is not anything written. There is one thing written and that is on the back page, the VIN and delivery / retail date. Hm???

With all of the cars I have owned, never has the Maintenance Records booklet ever been filled out. It might have been in the glove box where a mechanic never goes.

I rely on the paper receipt for maintenance done. Nothing else matters. For dealer service, I ask for a printout of service records. If a car has been serviced by more than one dealer, then each dealer needs to be contacted. None of the records go to a central records keeping establishment, too bad for us and for Volvo looking for repair trends.

Voltage drain on 2002 S60 --- any known suspects? S60

So here is how this all ended. Today I called the service manager and said, we received another notice that the 30,000 mile service is due and we are very concerned.

He asked for my phone number, looked it up and said ... oh no you aren't due. It was completed when they did the initial CPO inspection.

So I hung up thinking....this is the same guy that looked me in the eye and told me it was due for the maintenance.

Ok.....Whatever???

Fortunately, MN does not inspect cars. My MB dealer told me I needed new rear brake pads, 3-4mm. So, I got replacement pads. Pulled off the old ones: 6-7mm thick. Dealer was also going to replace the rotors because of the wear. The rotor has a 1mm or less lip????

My new Volvo Indie told me my end links were shot. The new HD end links are on the bench waiting for the old ones to wear out.

PS - Do you think that the state inspection guy actually does a better job of measuring brake pad thickness than a Volvo tech that does it all the time and may have a better tool to do the job.

Plus, the Volvo guy has more motivation to find a smaller value than the state guy - sell a brake job?

Voltage drain on 2002 S60 --- any known suspects? S60

All work was done at the same dealer by a Volvo tech.

After driving for 6,000 miles -

Rear on the CPO report were 8/32
Rear on the recent inspection report is 10/32

Front is the exact same on the inspection as the CPO report. So apparently on the front I used zero pad.

They do use a micrometer type tool to measure and maybe one tech is more accurate than the other tech?

Looking at the manual there is minimal to be done at 30,000 mile or nothing that IMO deserves almost $300. I wonder if you miss a service interval do you lose the CPO warranty?

Ha! Why does my one replay have Voltage drain on 2002 S60 --- any known suspects? [S60] in the subject page. Weird computer stuff taking over. :)

I think there was a time I did have a subject Voltage drain on 2002 S60 --- any known suspects? [S60] but that was years ago. Laughing and wondering what I did to revive that title? :)

What is called for in your maintenance schedule for 30K?

From what I found on the web, it is not too much. Oil change and filter plus air filter are the only real cost items.

A good dealer may do all this stuff to prep the car for sale, let alone CPO.

Our '12 XC70 called for 5k maintenance one month after we purchased it. The car does not account for sitting on the lot!

Since our car was NOT AWD but a FWD base model, it sat on their lot for a long time in snow country.

We got a brand new XC70 base for 26K because they could not get rid of a FWD XC70 - they sell this car for climate that do mot need AWD and at the time they did not sell V70s in the US. This car gets about 3 MPG more than our loaded '08 XC70.

The olly item that I have had maintenance issues with my dealer is checking the spare air pressure - Ihelp the tech out by pulling my spare out and leaving it in the rear and telling the service writer to make sure they check the spare - the last time, the tech left me a not telling what pressure he set the spare at (max pressure for the spare).

Thicker brake pads are odd. How much thicker?
