I apologize for repeated posts about the same issue. My daughter is driving our '98 V70 AWD. She's about 4 hours away, so I have limited the car.

The climate fan was not working when I tried it, even with the manual fan switch all the way over to the right. The climate lights are blinking. After I posted my recent request for help, she called to tell me that the fan had come on and worked during a recent five-minute trip to the store, but did not work again on the way home. So, I guess the fan works intermittently. I was thinking of swapping out the dash control unit at a pick-and-pull, but I don't want to do that if it's simply barking up the wrong tree. Thoughts about the problem?

    Had a similar experience a few years ago with daughter's 2000 V70. Here's the complete BB AWD thread about the fix: https://www.brickboard.com/AWD/volvo/1604516/V70-XC70/replace_blower_motor.html

    Summed up, replaced the blower motor and resister pack with OEM($$). Five years later, HVAC is still cooling and heating very well. I had replaced the heater core (also OEM) a couple of years earlier.

    I cannot give you some good advice beyond what Klaus suggested- but you might check the fuse for corrosion or a socket problem.

    An anecdote - When my daughter was at Cornell in Ithaca NY ( home of many, many Volvos ) she broke the heater knob on the dash of her 855. She went to an indy shop downtown - the guy there went out in the parking lot and pulled all three knobs off the dash of a parts car and gave them to her - no charge!

    She called me a few days to tell me the tale and said - You should see these guys dad, they're hippies!
