Front end troubleshooting S70 2000

My 2000 S70 has developed a thunk ( or maybe a clunk) during low speed turns ( think turning the wheel while backing out of the driveway) first on the left, now apparently on either side. Tracks straight but possibly a small amount of vibration at highway speed. Doesn't seem to act like a cv joint, no clunk on acceleration/deceleration. I will have to get under the beast for a grab-and-shake inspection, but I'm wondering if any of you folks with vastly more experience could point me at potential trouble spots before my back hits the gravel. Motor mounts? Strut issues? Any suggestions are welcome.

I am thinking strut mounts. How many miles on your struts and strut mounts? Still suggest also doing a thorough front end inspection. Ball joints/control arm bushings, inner and outer tie rods, CV joints, sway bar bushings etc. Does it clunk or sort of harshly bang when going over bumps or broken pavement? Any squeaks or other noises? How is the steering?

About 40k miles on struts & mounts & control arms with ball joints. Just a clunk on low speed turns so far, steering seems ok otherwise. I'll take a look and try to narrow it down. Thanks for the ideas.
