Replacement procedure for rear strut/shock V70-XC70 2012

Hi, winter and wet & cold spring appears to have come to an abrupt end here in Central Vermont. So I am finally getting to replacing the rear struts/shocks on my 2012 XC70. Has anyone on this forum performed this procedure? I would like to do so without a lot of guesswork and removal of parts I didn't need to remove. Do I remove the rear seat bottom? Where do the strut tops bolt in, how do I access them & what needs to be removed? Any and all tricks and advice is very much welcomed and requested. Thanks everyone.

Well my question, in hindsight turned out to be a pretty stupid one. This job is a piece of cake. Simply required my jacking up the side of the car ahead of the rear wheel after having loosened the lug nuts and removing the rear wheel. I then lowered the A-frame onto a jack stand to take the tension off and collapse the shock a bit. Three bolts to remove; the two 10 mm bolts on that hold the top bracket into place are easily accessed in the wheel well after removing the rear wheel and the bottom thru-bolt that fastens the lower end of the shock to the A-frame is removed with an 18mm socket. No need to support the car on anything but the jack as you never need to go under the car with anything but your arm to remove the lower bolt. Both rear shocks were done in under 30 minutes, including putting the tools away.

How many miles are on your 2012?
      D'ya like owning it?
What brand and specific model of shock did you buy? If not Volvo shocks, why?

Someone will be along shortly to scold you for letting something other than your shadow go beneath a car which hasn't been secured.

      ...anywhere near Orwell? I am.

I just did this last month to my 2012 Volvo XC70 T6. I opted for Bilstein Shocks as I was able to get a much better price for the two of them compared to Volvo units and a much better warranty. I had the originals still on the car and they had 172K miles on them and were totally dead!

Next project for me on the car is the Front wheel hubs assemblies as they are making noise and then I'm taking the back of the car apart to upgrade bulbs to LED units and wire up for my Trailer hitch unit.

I just bought this car last October as a replacement for the 2008 that was totaled from hitting a deer jumping out onto the highway at night. The car had 130K when I bought it.

I have converted all the fluids to Amsoil and now the car is averaging 27.3 mpg.
