Heater hose block? 4 hoses connector? C70 2007

Daughter's 2007 C70 experienced a huge coolant loss the other night, fortunately, she was idling in a take-out line and shut it off immediately. A couple of friends pushed the car into a parking space and I dollied it home.

She said there was a "boom" and steam everywhere and coolant all over the place.

I found the culprit and need help as I don't know what the part is called. On the firewall, the two hoses that go to the heater core connect to a block which two other hoses, the feed and return to the engine. The upper hose on the heater core side broke free of the block. Looks like part of the nipple is in the hose. Looking online this part is nowhere to be seen in parts lists but it is dead center behind the turbo inlet pipe just under the cowl.

I'd like to bypass it with a section of hose. It looks like a part to ease production. Like when the body and interior, complete with dash and heater core are being fitted with the engine, the pipes from the engine are quickly snapped into the firewall coupler.

This has not been my favorite Volvo.

Well, at least she caught it right away and didn't damage anything.

    lets try this link:

I think you're after #16 on that diagram, inlet hose, PN 30636952.

    Best of luck,
    Will

      Will,

You are absolutely correct! Part #17 is the bracket and from the diagram, hose #16 has a long nipple which passes through the bracket. That is what snapped off inside the hose. The other end of the nipple is obviously in the coupler of hose #21. I'm ordering all four hoses as I don't want to go through this again.

Now to figure out the coupler release mechanism on the hoses at the heater core end...

      Much appreciated.

After you are done cussing and swearing while under the dash, filled up the antifreeze, and run the engine checking for leaks - try this alternative:

A real trunk and access to the rear seat.

          Klaus,

Upon closer examination of the drawing and the parts, you are correct. (No surprise!) It's an "inside job." My days of squeezing under a dash are long over so I may end up cutting out and splicing the offending hoses together using nipples and clamps. Not the fun kind either. 8^0

I'll peek under the dash, but am not optimistic that I'll pursue that solution.

The S60 looks nice but 19 year old daughter is soured on Volvo after having been raised in several. An XJ or WJ series Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 straight six and room to work may be in her future. Son has a 2001 XJ and it's in reality a re-badged 6 cylinder Volvo 240 4x4. A tank.

Still liking our '08 V70 but really miss my '95 855T. That was the best year of the 850.

Too late to edit, but checking closely when I got home, the hose disconnects are at the firewall, not inside the cabin, so it appears the job can be done from the engine compartment. I've ordered all four hoses and a new firewall clip from the website above.

            Thanks!

            Erwin
