T6 question XC90

Thankfully I have been out of the Volvo repairs for a while so I haven’t been on here lately. We had an accident with our 05 xc90. I’m looking at what is out there in my area and I am wondering what year, or if, the T6/transmission issue was resolved. When I was looking for the one we have now I avoided the T6s like the plague. Also, any issues to know about if a v8 presents itself? Or stay with the tried and true 5 cylinder.

Thanks,
Ken

The "T6" inline six that I believe you're referring to was offered from 2003 through 2006. That's the one that is related to the inline six used in the 960/S90/V90 which, in twin turbo form, has a less than stellar reputation in the XC90 and S80 through 2006. The inline six specced from 2007 is a different design.

Do a little googling about the Volvo/Yamaha V8. Or start here: https://blog.fcpeuro.com/the-dark-side-of-volvos-excellent-v8

The V8 is nice, but can be a mechanical nightmare. The 6 cyl engines are better now, after 2007 or so, with mpg. The high pressure T6 is fun to drive and reasonably quiet.

Keeping it running is better than buying new
