Is it safe to use the same transmission fluid in my 1998 S70 that I use in my 2007 XC70??

    Thanks everyone.

    Apparently my wallmart does not carry Mobil 1 ATF, and the DexronIII is getting harder and harder to find at my wallmart as well.

    Ugh!

      While WalMart is consistently the cheapest place to buy oils, I've also taken to often buying from Advance Auto. Shop online and pickup in store. Online coupon codes for 15-25% off are always available though not always applicable to all items.
      Amazon.com is another option as they have been getting into the auto parts game...

      I haven’t looked in awhile but try Autozone. I know they used to carry Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

    It might be 'safe' but I would not recommend it. The best bet for the 1998 is Mobil1 ATF, Walmart special. Same for the power steering fluid.

    Two different transmission designs and applications. XC70 uses JWS3309 spec ATF (Volvo, Aisin, Mobil 1 3309, Toyota IV). S70 uses Dexron lll The two ATFs are not compatible. Stick with what the owner’s manual recommends for best results. In extreme cases, using incorrect ATF will damage a transmission.
