Bent another wheel C70 2007

Daughter called to tell me she had another flat. Dropped it by the house and sure enough, another bent wheel. Inner edge, barely bent but enough to leak air past the bead.

This is the third one in a year. (One was cracked and bent)

These are the 18" Mirzam wheels and are soft as cheese. Short of running 50psi I don't know what else to do.

Will the 17" wheel fit a C70 that the 18"s were an option for? Will a /45 cross section really make a difference over the /40 that the 18" wheels require?

I'd put steel wheels on this thing if I knew what would fit.

Quite frustrating.

Also looking forward to upper and lower radiator hose replacement and T-belt. T-belt is easy but the upper hose looks to be a PITA with its 4 outlets!

Longing for my old 855T.

Many alloy rims can be straightened. I've had it done a number of times. Can't believe how many times bent rims are diagnosed as "you just need to have the tires balanced".

Straightening bent rims seems to have become just another maintenance item over the past 5-10 years.

Does your daughter try to avoid potholes?
I realize that that's not always possible, and I'm not trying to criticize her, but three times in one year?

Thanks for the reply. See my response to Klaus. Nice car, our 4th of 5 Volvos, but it's gone when spring convertible weather gets here.

Hello Klaus,

Unfortunately this wheel had already been cracked, welded, straightened and was now bent in a different area. The wheel shop price to straighten was reasonable but if the previous weld opened while working on it the total repair would have been much more than the repro Mirzam wheel I bought new.

Lots of potholes in Memphis. She tries to avoid them but they're difficult to spot as low as the C70 sits.

I just R & R'd the T belt and radiator hoses this past weekend. Wow, what a PITA that hose job is.

Lord help me if the hardtop convertible ever needs repair.

When her spring semester is out and she's back home for the summer I'm selling this car and buying her a used Jeep Cherokee XJ. The older boxy style. My son has one and it's like an old Volvo. Bomb proof and easy to do regular maintenance on.

That's discouraging, to say the least. Yes, the 17" wheels fit just fine. And 45 is better than 40.

Keeping it running is better than buying new
