When we purchased our NA 2012 XC70, we test drove a turbo as well.
It was even faster than our '96 855R - I loved that R, owned it for 11 years and jumped on it every chance I got.
We did not like the '12 turbo because the extra speeds in the transmission caused it to shift when we let off the gas and my wife almost ran off a highway exit. Also, the 3.2 turbo arrives at maximum torque at 1500 RPM, I had trouble driving it around a parking lot slowly unless I locked it in second gear! (I'm sure that I would have gotten used to it with some practice)
Our NA 3.2 acts much more like the cars we are used to - that is you get some engine braking when you let off the gas on the highway. It does seem to have plenty of power.
Also, I like to look ahead instead of backward - when we purchased our '12, I was 66 and planned to drive the car for many years - would I like a car that wanted to go, go, go when I was 75?
Our other car, a 2008 XC70 has 100K, and everything on it still works fine, except the sunroof which is now disabled - this older car has held up well, and drives just like our '12 that has 45K. The '12 has some more low end pep, probably computer settings.
