2004 xc90 T6 thermostat housing XC90

Hello everyone,

I need to replace the coolant temperature sensor and thermostat on my XC90 with 2.9L. I have watched you tube videos where upon removal, the plastic nipple on the thermostat housing will eventually break and this part is not sold separately.
The thermostat housing from a S80 do not have a plastic nipple with the hose going to the coolant reservoir like the xc90 do. To my understanding this part is for bleeding purposes only.
I am thinking of replacing the S80 thermostat housing in the xc90 and would like to know your opinion?

Thank you for your time!

Charles

If the part is for bleeding the air out of the system, how you going to remove
the trap air. If you have air in the system the heating will not be good, in Honda's the cars can actually overheat.

      Thank you for your reply!
This is why i posted this question. The S80 does not have this bleeder plastic nipple like the XC90 and yet they both have the same engine! I am not being cheap here, just trying to understand why Volvo would do this on same engines?

The location of the heater cores makes a large difference on how easy is to bleed the engine.

I only have the car models which are easy to bleed, if you install the s80 set up their are ways to actually remove all the air.

        1. Funnel set up
        2. Vacuum set up that works very nice

        Just do a Google search!

Great, i will look into it. I was trying to eliminate this thermostat nipple and was wondering if the S80 part would work?

Thank you for your reply Klaus!

About $16-17, shipped. All are made by URO, not the best quality but aluminum beats brittle plastic. For faster shipping, check their location.
