2008 V70 Rear View Mirror R/R V70-XC70 2008

Hello,

The rear view mirror in my wife's '08 V70 is streaking badly. The mirrored surface on the inside of the glass is about gone.

Mirrors are readily available on Ebay, but is the wiring and connector accessible without disturbing the headliner?

The mirror is mounted to a large block (cover?) at the top of the windshield that I hope conceals the connector.

Thanks,

Erwin in Memphis

Erwin - I suspect that the mirror surface is on the OUTSIDE of the glass. This is done to avoid a slightly fuzzy image caused by the light going through the glass twice before it gets to your eyes.

You could check with a dealer, or make a small scratch in a corner.

Our '08 XC70 has some scratches on its mirror.

I clean my inside mirrors infrequently and carefully. I only use a clean, soft cloth and bit of Dawn detergent . (I'd give my eye teeth to wash some ducklings or an otter like in their commercial)

      Hello Jim,

We've both been around BB a long time. I hadn't considered that it may be a front coated mirror (reflective surface on the front, not behind the glass like a dresser mirror).

We use them in broadcasting on camera teleprompters to eliminate refraction distortion of the scripts. They are very delicate which is why I'd be surprised if that's the case in an automotive application where it would be mis-handled easily. I'll test a corner but still, the question is, can I get to the electrical connector without disturbing the headliner.

Having looked at it more closely, that may be possible. Thanks for the reply!

      Best regards,

      Erwin

Erwin, you are the first person that I communicated with on this board, nice to converse with you.

My current fleet consists of _

A '12 XC70 - an interesting front wheel drive stripped model with NO options - I purchased this car ew for $26,500 less an $800 loyalty rebate and less two payments totaling about $750 - all told a steal for a new Volvo. PS, I paid cash and still got this deal.

        A '08 XC70 fully loaded, purchased 3 years ago.

        A '64 544 survivor that I purchased 10 years ago.

A '68 1800S that is a basket case that has reclined on my patio for 8 years.

Lastly a '54 Chevrolet Delray that I traded a metal garage kit for - It has a 350 V-8, a turbo 350 tranny, a 4 barrel, headers, disc brakes all around, rack and pinion steering, and power brakes - it is white with Blue flames - what a hoot!

        Jim
