Brown splatter near windshield washer tank - oil? V70-XC70

I'll try to get pictures up. The brown marks almost look like rust-colored (or tan colored) corrosion but they are on plastic so I guess something splattered. There is not a lot of this but I am worried this is the beginning of something bad. It is also near the passenger side headlamp area of the black metal 'deck' in that area. (The place where one might rest a wrench when working under the hood). It is as if something came down from above. I can't seem to trace a source. Maybe oil is being kicked up by a belt? It is not a big mess. Any ideas?

Did anyone top off your coolant? Some might have been spit out.

When your engine is cool, look inside tour coolant reservoir, I have seen oily looking deposits inside older coolant tanks.

These are guesses because while I usually peek at my own car when people describe things as you did (looking for the position of the "shelf") it's raining cats and dogs at the moment.

1) CV joint grease splatter? Again, I don't know where the fender liner is etc.

2) You could've driven over anything in the street. Paint is usually white or yellow but you could've hit a puddle of oily liquid.

3) Old neglected PS fluid?

How's the condition of other things nearby?

I hope this is a link that will show the discoloration. It is a google photo link.
