Location of Side Marker Connector ? V70-XC70

I have a simple dumb question. 2004 V70

Where is the physically located that supplies the 12 VDC to the side marker lights ? I can't find it. If any of you guys have a picture that would be great or GPS Coordinates to the location of the connector, neither one of the side marker lights are working, no 12V is making it to the side marker sockets.

Thanks As Always.

Rich

I don't know the exact location of the upstream disconnect, but the wiring diagram makes it look like the side markers AND the parking lights (in the headlight assembly) are powered via the same source. So, are the parking lights working?

Yes Chris, the Parking Lights are working. This V70 is new to me, I have always owned B230F and B230FT, and of course the old P1800ES. So I am not as intimately familiar with the layout as I am with the older ones. I looked a few times trying to trace but I am by myself and hard to see what wires are moving and where when I try to find the 12V supply going out to the side markers. All fuses are good. Weird.

Did you check the voltage at the point where the wires connect to the back side of the socket?

No Chris, I did not. Since both sides are out, i deduced the probability of both sides being bad at the same time was low, so I just used new bulbs as test lights on the port and starboard marker light receptacles. And neither side lit up, so I think the issue is pretty much upstream from the receptacles for the bulbs/lamps.

"...All fuses are good...."

The Haynes manual shows that there are actually two fuses involved in providing the side markers' power supply, one in the engine compartment fuse box (#6 on the diagram below), and one in the passenger cabin fuse box (#5). Did you check both places?

They also show a relay (#21), plugged into the CEM (#9), is at play.

#24-a and #25-a are presumably the side lights.

The problem is that Haynes doesn't differentiate between model years. Their schematics are all titled "Typical" this and "Typical" that.

Chris, this is awesome, thank you. I just found the issue today and the problematic component was the Headlight Control Relay. I went into the Engine Bay Fuse box and sort of jiggled and tapped the rack of relays. The lights are working normal ever since. Even the side markers are working, at least I think they are. They only turn on when a directional is activated. So now WTF ? Is this normal ? I looked at the manual and it does not say anything about them other than identifying what they are. But the side lights did work as directionals, and the driver's side headlight no longer sporadically blinks.

Yes, normal. I don’t own your model V70 but I believe the side markers only turn on when the directional is activated. At least that is what my Passat wagon does...:)

On our 2000 V70 the side marker lights operate when using:
- Directional turn signals
- Central locking with remote
- Emergency Hazard flashers

MAJOR DUH !! I just figured that out, what a dimwit I am. I thought for sure the side markers were actually side markers, they are NOT. Just like you guys say, directionals, etc.. I am a new V70 guy, I have always had B230Fs and B230FTs, so this one is a new one on me. THANKS FOR telling me this, great appreciated. -Rich
