Tear in carpet suggestions? V70-XC70 2005

Just noticed a tear of about 6-7 inches in the carpeting just left of the driver's footrest. I am thinking that, during winter, water, snow, etc., will enter. I am stumped for a repair idea--all I can think of is duct tape--that might work for this (short of replacing the entire piece of carpeting). Any thoughts? Thank you

I would visit a pick&pull for a new driver's side carpet. Except for pulling down the footrest to remove it, it is straight forward. You could also clean the new one with Simple clean, rinse it and let it dry before installing it.

Do you have a removable plastic foot rest?

If so, push it upward and remove it - it is in keyhole shaped holes.

If so, you could fabricate a piece of flexible plastic sheet that you can install under the footrest and cover the hole.

Floor or "wall" tear? Just asking.

First off, clean it as best you can. This can be a repetitive soap foam, blot-to-rinse, allow to dry process.

    See if sewing will do.

If it's a wear spot consider putting a heat activated glue patch (iron-on blue jean patch from any notions store) UNDER the hole with the glue facing out. Then place a protective cloth over the hole and apply the hot iron.

If this proves inadequate, get creative with whatever amount of material is needed to "fill the hole" and buy the powdered version of the glue used in the aforementioned patches and have at doing it again.

Feel free to shave the carpet's nap down so the flowing glue gets a good bite.

Good lighting and a flexible backbone will help immensely.
