Front end noise when braking V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 SE B5244S AW55-50SN

It's not a screech, squeal or grinding sound; I'd describe the noise as more of a "groan" and slight vibration from the left front when braking for a stop, most evident at slow speed just before stopping for a stop sign.

OEM front pads and rotors replaced within last 9,000 miles, and no signs of grooves or bluing on the front rotors.

I'd say it's more of a worn bearing sound that shows itself at slower speeds and under braking loads. After searching this BB site for symptoms, I'm guessing it's a front wheel bearing that needs checking and probably replacing.

Am I close?

Bearing? Probably not. Of the other possibilities, it could be a loose inner pad. Or even a pad spring that wasn't properly seated.

When I've had wheel bearings go south the sound has been more of a constant whirring sound. Louder when the car is turned in the direction of the bad wheel bearing. Sounds to me it is more likely a bad strut, strut mount or ball joint/control arm.

Did you check the back side of the rotor too ?
Calipers can hang up.
