Air Guide V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 SE / 249K miles

While I'd like to deflect the blame to the high curb that knocked out this front underside "Air Guide" part while parking this week, probably no one would believe me.

Anyway, this is the part (see ipd listing: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5332/112014-air-guide).

The clips on my original piece now appear to be missing, damaged and weak. Has anyone done a successful repair and reinstallation, or do I buy a new part?

You might keep the old one - I cut pieces out of mine several times to make repair patches to pop rivet in place on our several Bricks.

Great idea, just pulled the old one back out of the trash barrel.

Just changed out the coolant this morning. Remembered what was said in this BB forum about the fragility of the plastic radiator drain cock, so I drained cooling system by removing the lower radiator hose; easier to do while the air guide is removed. Also opened the block drain on rear right side of the block, below the exhaust manilfod. Refilled 50/50 with Volvo concentrated coolant and distilled water.

Was the color of the new coolant dark blue or pale green?
I've heard confusing info.
Thanks

Definitely not pale green; I’d call it a dark bluish-green color. Bought one gallon at the local Volvo dealer. ipd has a better price, but with shipping cost it comes out about the same.

I thought about using Zerex G-05, which BB threads indicate is OK for white block Volvos. But I decided the Zerex G-05 honey-gold color just wouldn’t look correct in the engine bay / coolant reservoir!

The Volvo antifreeze I bought awhile ago for my 850 was also dark green/blue.

Again, thanks.
The reason I asked was that the Volvo I bought has pale green coolant and someone said, "Volvo's been going to green recently". Of course that sounded like plain Bee Ess.

My guess and hope is that there was blue in it and someone added G-05 and made their own green hue.
It'll soon be out, flushed and "reblued".

Two parts were mentioned here.
The air dam up front is low and vulnerable.
The rearward arms of the plastic splash shield seem "always" to break.
That IPD aluminum shield is sexy.

I have been there, several times. Good glue, clips bent back with pliers, new screws, etc. Look at the bumper lip and see if there is a clip on there.

You can run without the 'air guide'/'splash guard'. If I were going to replace mine, I would get the IPD aluminum cover, as it will protect the oil pan much better.

$100 more than the plastic stuff.

Thanks all,

After looking at the damaged piece in the daylight today (happened last night), decided to spring for the new part. The original was pretty battered from previous scrapes and it just makes sense to get a shiny new one. (Won’t stay that way for long!). ipd must sell a lot of these, that lower front area of S70 and V70 is vulnerable as it sits quite low with not a lot of ground clearance.

While I’m at it, I’ll plan to drain, flush and fill the coolant, since the radiator drain cock is exposed while the air guide is removed.

I installed that part years ago.
Repairing your broken one will take a measure of time, supply procurement and effort which I felt justified the use of a new part.
It's good one's available.
